Attention all Pressure Pipe Welders
The Training Center in Saskatoon is preparing to offer an informational program focusing on the Phased Array Ultrasonic Examination Process. This informational course provides for lecture and presentation on the Phased Array Process as well as some hands on welding of piping joints that will be tested using the Phased Array equipment at our Training Center. Piping used will be the SA-335-P91 (9Cr-1Mo-V) along with the B9 fillers. This material allows for a reduction of up to 54% in wall thickness at the same design temperature and pressure. Preheating, maintaining inter-pass temperatures, and post-weld heat treatment procedures are very critical to the microstructure for P91 grade. Failure to follow the procedures will result in catastrophic failures. This training will provide the welder insight and understanding of this ultrasonic examination process and the best practices one needs to use to ensure the pipe joint will pass the Phased Array. SaskPower has an upcoming project at Queen Elizabeth Power Station in Saskatoon that will use over 1600 feet of this P91 piping.
This informational course will be set up to include QC/QA Council of Canada representation, SaskPower representation, and a welding Instructor from the UA179/JTC Training Center.
The tentative dates for this informational program will be August 23, 24, 2014. Course time will be from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm each session. We will schedule this course at 334 Robin Way in Saskatoon. Class size is limited to 10 to 12 individuals.
In order to get on the roster for this information program, you will need to call the Saskatoon Training Office to register. Call 1-306-651-3737 or email skppin@sasktel.net
